Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) created his first microscope (as can be seen at the right) at the end of the 17th century. Starting his research Van Leeuwenhoek is the founder of microscopy in the Netherlands. The Netherlands Society for Microscopy (NVvM) is a society of professional microscopists from academia, industry and government laboratories. The NVvM wants to promote microscopy in all its aspects and to stimulate interaction between its members.
